Fancy new interface, just as annoying, and less options to disable stuff. This is why people are frustrated with Avast. But now I have to wonder if I'm even protected.
#The avast vpn service keeps popping up update#
What possible reasoning is there for all this stuff to constantly update and run at every boot?Īfter all of this has been disabled, it's running quieter. They were all set to run at every boot and also every 24 hours. The module is disabled in the program settings, but why even have it run at boot if I don't want it?Īll are disabled except Avast Emergency Update. I already have a firewall running - I don't need the firewall running. At this point I'm not even sure if the virus protection is working correctly after disabling all these in services, but it's just too much.Īvast Firewall in services won't even let you disable it form running - I get "access denied". There's way too many of these modules running. I'm trying to give it a chance because otherwise it's well-behaved once some of these things are dialed back or disabled, and I like the new interface.ĮDIT: "Avast Tools" in services is another one that keeps popping up and using HDD resources. If this software updater continues to run like this, I will remove Avast from my PC and find an alternative. That would be a way better way to handle this, instead of forcing the behavior on us.

Why can't we disable the software updater?Īnd instead of starting off full steam ahead with maxing out our HDDs immediately after install, without new users even knowing what it's doing, how about a simple pop up after installation informing us installation is complete - now head over to software updater and ransomware shield to scan for files/folders.

That's a hell of a way to start things off in a new install - immediately maxing out your HDD for ages scanning every file and folder on your PC - and it wasn't scanning for viruses, it was just these extra components.Īvast - you allow us to disable the ransomware shield, the web shield, and the file shield. I had no idea what was happening and I was about to uninstall it and find an alternative, but then I dug around and discovered what was running and disabled as much as I could.

When you install, it's all or nothing.Īlso, the moment it finished installing, it started running multiple scans simultaneously - one to populate the Ransomware protection component with folders ( on a second internal drive) and also Avast Driver Updater and software updater were all also running. All of those options are taken away in Avast One Essentials (free).

In the previous Avast free, they allowed you to disable each component, or even uninstall it/not install it at all when installing. They really, really need to add an option to disable this component if it's not needed. I have "Avast Cleanup", "Avast Driver Updater", and "Avast SecureLine VPN" all disabled completely in Services, but the software updater still runs on it's own. This is a service that I personally don't want or need because I have lots of software it doesn't recognize anyways, and I don't like unnecessary components running or scanning my HDD. It's annoying and there's no way to disable this from starting up when it wants to. It keeps populating the "Software Updater" section with more and more programs that "need" updating. However:Īvast software analyzer (aswblDSAgent in task manager) cannot be prevented from running. I decided to give this a try and it's pretty sleek and it runs quite quietly in the background with very little HDD activity - mostly.

Overall I think it's a big improvement from the old Avast, which I gave up on a while back. I just installed the brand new Avast One Essentials (free) last night on Windows 10.
